Socio-economic marginalization is a key driver of hazard vulnerability through its impact on available resources. It manifests differently at different levels of societal aggregation. For individuals, markers include poverty, food insecurity, low education, poor health, and limited adaptation capacity. At higher levels, it includes inequality, reliance on rainfed agriculture, and external dependency.
