Level of armed violence measures the hazards through armed violence perpetrated by organized groups. Next to the obvious risks to physical security, this often also leads to the destruction of property and infrastructure and triggers migration movements. Armed conflict has been termed “development in reverse”. The level of armed violence is measured through conflict-related fatalities in and around a grid-cell in a given quarter.
